Hong Kong Dog Rescue Portraits @ Tai Po Centre

Hong Kong Dog Rescue, Tai Po

Normally I only use the word “portrait” for an image that has been a collaboration between the “sitter” and myself. But that’s not really possible for a dog, but they still feel a bit like portraits. I have taken photos for Hong Kong Dog Rescue a few times, but my favourite location is their facility in Tai Po. Huge old place built into the side of a hill. It holds literally hundreds of dogs. Every day volunteers come to walk each and every single dog.

It’s been a stressful time for the dog rescue organizations in Hong Kong. During the plague many people left town quite quickly, and left their dogs behind. Many of these orgs have done massive heavy lifting in keeping going through all the turmoil of the past few years.

Eding these shots was tricky, as I removed leashed and big harnesses from every single animal. The backgrounds also take a lot of work. I am looking at doing more work with shelters, so if you have a dog for me to photograph, please let me know.

Hong Kong Dog Rescue Adoption Day at Whiskers and Paws

Every Sunday HKDR holds an Adoption Day at Whiskers and Paws in Ap Lei Chau. Great space, some people bring their own pets, so they can mingle with the dogs up for adoption. It’s a very positive atmosphere. Nice to see some dogs ending up with families. I have met Sally Anderson there, founder of Hong Kong Dog Rescue. A couple of images of Sally below.
