The Best Locations | Hong Kong Family Photoshoot
An oasis in the middle of Admiralty, and one of my favourite spots for natural, unhurried family photography in Hong Kong. Some specific rules apply, but the results are spectacular. Better for small groups. 500 meters from Hong Kong Park with a tiny fraction of the people. Late afternoon sessions only, closed on Mondays.

The Asia Society Grounds
Lingnan Garden
It’s like a Chinese movie set in Lai Chi Kok Park at Mei Foo in Kowloon. Timing is everything here, but I know this place very well, which makes all the difference for candid family photography. Bamboo, stained glass, antique-ish furniture, turtles, and lots of quiet.
I get it, it’s kind of far, in HK terms, from the island, but it’s worth the 30 min commute.
Chung Hom Kok Beach
The hike down keeps a lot of people away, and that's not a bad thing! Very often completely quiet on weekdays, ideal for relaxed, natural family photos on HK Island. Great jungle gym for the kids too. (Actually parents as well.)
This pairs well with a Stanley town session for the ultimate Southside family portraits session.
Stanley
Murray House, the pier, small parks, old temples (one with a tiger skin), fabulous rocks and the laneways. The ultimate Southside location for outdoor family photos. Ice cream for the kids at the end.
During spring Stanley is the obvious spot for a late afternoon shoot. The place is deserted. Weekend mornings can be surprisingly quiet as well. I never tire of Stanley.

Kowloon Park
My favourite park in the world. Endlessly versatile for kids photography in Hong Kong. Massive, with backdrops ranging from Chinese architecture to lush gardens and a huge maze. Even after almost 20 years there are still parts of it I haven’t explored.
Great light everywhere, and perfect on cloudy or sunny days.
Easy to reach on the MTR.
Star Ferry, TST
You can't go wrong with a Star Ferry family photo session, it's the classic Hong Kong backdrop that every family should use as a photography backdrop at least once. Best in the morning if you can swing it.
I use the entire thing: Star Ferry top and lower decks, as well as around the terminals on both Central and TST sides.
There was talk of closing this, I’m so glad they didn’t.
All-Inclusive Hong Kong Family Portrait Packages
I believe your family's memories belong in your hands, not stuck on a hard drive. As an alternative to the typical photo studio model where a basic session is just a "foot in the door" for expensive add-ons, my all-inclusive approach is different.
My all-in standard package includes: the high-resolution digital collection, and a large number of colour-corrected proofs and a hardcover album.
To receive this album in time for the December holidays, it is advised to do these sessions during my April-May availability. If you do a photo session in November, I do not have the time to produce these albums during my busy period. They take time, I really think about these projects, especially when making multi-year albums.
Don’t Wait for "Perfect"!
I often see families wait until their kids are ten to book a session. By then, the magic toddler years are long gone. As a lifestyle photographer, I know there is no such thing as the "perfect" time. (Actually, the perfect time was six months ago!)
