Safe Sessions | Perfect for Hong Kong Toddlers

Hong Kong Mini Sessions

Hong Kong Toddler Photography

Let’s face it, sometime, when it comes to photographing toddlers, an hour is a lot to ask of them, especially when it comes to kids who are ‘just’ toddling at around one year old. But, as I always say, if you are going to do one photo session with your kid(s), this is the time to do it. ‘Toddlerdom’ is by far and away the cutest period of a kids life for photos. Their personalities are already pretty much set but they are just out of infancy.

Twice in my career I’ve photographed kids first steps, which makes for an incredible photo opportunity.

But getting back to my main point; a 15 or 20 minute Mini Session is the perfect length of time to grab some quick shots of kids this age. Plus they are priced reasonably, so families can do them at say 12 month and 18 months, and the overall cost is still less than a regular one hour portrait photo session. The best locations for toddler photos are obviously somewhere that offers up a soft landing should they tip over, which is expected and ridiculously cute. Toddler photos are best at a park with some grass or on a sandy beach. Hong Kong has plenty of the later, and a few decent spots for the former.

Two of my standby locations are The Botanical Garden and Repulse Bay Beach for Wobbly Toddler sessions!

Lastly I will say that the kids don’t have to be fully walking yet. The weeks before can be pretty photogenic as well. A kid who can stand but not walk is cute, as is the shot of a toddler holding Mom & Dad’s hands, acting as training wheels for the actual first steps. As you know, once they are mobile, your life is going to change significantly. When I was two years old and very mobile, while my mom was busy with my two younger brother (she had six kids in nine years), I decided to go downtown. I walked for a mile from our home, somehow safely crossing a few streets. My dad, who was going home for lunch in his baby blue MGB spotted me in front of the Picton Post Office and did a double take. He snagged me and took me home to my relieved mother. I’ve been toddling away from home ever since.
