Hollywood Road Family Photo Session
Twins always make for interesting family portrait sessions. Hong Kong has an inordinate number of twins. I’ve heard some theories on the subject, but I have no idea if they are true. I have been photographing these kids since their first birthday at the Hong Kong Country Club, so we all know one another. For this session we decided on the classic Hong Kong location around Hollywood Rd, up on Ladder Street and along Bridges St. You can’t go wrong with this location, although I like to do these midday when we have the most ambient light bouncing around.
Hong Kong is full of amazing urban locations with ridiculously perfect backdrops for Hong Kong family photo sessions. I see tons of photographers around this area, but there is also Stone Nullah Lane, the urban jungles of Mongkok and Sham Shui Po and even around Wan Chai. Hong Kong, like most cities, changes it’s face constantly. But family photographers like myself like to find areas with some patina, some history. Unlike trying to do this in New York City or Toronto, Hong Kong is very easy. People are friendly to family photos and rarely do I ever have an issue. Of course I am always respectful and do my level best at keeping out of the way of people making a living. Hong Kong is very brusque and rushed on the outside, but actually super friendly and accepting underneath. (Kind of the opposite of many places I could name, but won’t!)
