“Disco Bay”. Years before I even visited Hong Kong, I heard about this legendary place in Hong Kong “where families had back yards and BBQs”. In the ensuing years I have done many family photography sessions in Discovery Bay, but I’ve never been invited to a backyard BBQ. (Hint hint!)
The Key Thing Is: Discovery Bay is Not Just a Beach!
Photographing families in Discovery Bay is unique and fun for a couple of great reasons, the main one being there is just less population density out there. (Maybe it’s the price of a gold cart?) No matter, I’ve had lots of great photo shoots out there. It’s kind of another world. My favourite type of photo session is one where we can move around a bit and use the various physical features of a place. Photography is all about light, and I have found a couple of spots with amazing light. Family photo sessions on Hong Kong Island can be tricky with the corwds, especially on weekends. (That’s why I like to do Repulse Bay family photo sessions on weekdays, mornings when possible.)
I had done a previous photo session with these kids, so that makes it easy from the first minute.

Anyway, back to the story. We hit a few spots, all of them instantly recognizable to anyone living in Discovery Bay. This Discovery Bay photo session was a bit unique as we went up the mountain overlooking the bay, which has pretty spectacular views, even on a somewhat misty day.
