Toddler to Teen: Twenty Years of Hong Kong Kids Photography

Before & After Portraits — The Same People, Years Apart

A gallery from Ian Taylor's 20-year Hong Kong family portrait portfolio: the same children photographed years apart, from toddler to teen.

The Legacy Project (Ongoing)

Twenty Years of Family Portraits

The kids in these before-and-after portraits were toddlers when I first photographed them. Some are now in university. Some have left Hong Kong entirely for London and Singapore, and I followed them there. A few I've been photographing since before they could walk.

Not many photographers have a gallery like this one. Not because it's technically difficult — because it requires families to come back, year after year, and trust you across the arc of their kids’ childhood. And it requires a photographer who has spent twenty years believing that portraits of children are worth doing properly.

The Legacy Family Story

See what one family received by doing six sessions with me over 12 years. This is family history, not simple holiday card photography.

If you're just starting out, this page is also a reason not to wait. You can't go back and photograph the toddler years once they're gone.

The families on this page started early and stayed. That's why the record exists.

Why You Should Do Annual Family Portraits

Family photos aren’t just about a single "nice" photo; it’s about family history. Watching siblings' bonds strengthen and personalities unfold over years is priceless.

All it takes is an hour or so every year or two, that’s it.

If you're thinking about a family photos, the best time to start is now. Whether it’s your first session or the beginning of a longer journey, even one hour can capture a moment that won’t come again.
