Repulse Bay is in my Top Five Locations Worldwide for Family Photography Sessions. I realize most people just think of beach, sand and sea when thinking about family photo sessions at Repulse Bay, but there is so much more.
At the South End of Repulse Bay Beach, there is a fantastic Tin Hau Temple, the pier, and the Big Fish into which you attempt to throw coins into for good luck. (Harder than it looks!) At the North End of Repulse Bay Beach there is the start of The Promenade over to Deepwater Bay Beach. Tons of great spots along this stretch of the beach. There are also some rocks to stage some photos on if the kids (and parents!) are OK with clambering over the fence and out onto the boulders. This is the great backdrop shot of Repulse Bay. As a Repulse Bay family photographer, this is what I love about the location, the incredible diversity in this relatively small, historical bay.

I put a few shots here from Repulse Bay family photo sessions to prove a couple of points. (Or disprove a few things that people often express doubt about.)
Myth #1
“The beach is too crowded!”. No it’s not. The secret of most locations is when you use them. If we meet up early in the morning, the beach is empty. On weekdays it’s often empty all morning. Yes, it gets busy ‘mid-beach’ on the weekends, but we just avoid it. Repulse Bay photo shoots have very specific location for the actual photography based on where the sun is. (Or isn’t!) Which brings me to my next point.
Myth #2
“We want a sunny day beach photography session!”. Not really. Sun is tricky at best, so the ideal weather for beach photography is cloud cover, nice high clouds if possible. In the photo of the little girl in front of the clock, you can see in the background that the clouds are very low in the sky. The light is absolutely perfect!
