30 Minute Photo Session in Hong Kong
Last year I started a new type of Hong Kong family photo session: The Demi Session. I also launched Mini Sessions, which are super short and focused. I still had my One Hour Sessions as I’ve done 1000 times. I needed something in between, more relaxed than a Mini but not the time and financial investment of a One Hour Session. I also wanted to offer a special deal on weekdays, using some of my favourite locations close to where I stay on Hong Kong Island. Then one evening I was walking along the fantastic new waterfront development in Wan Chai when I had my ‘Eureka Moment’. I can offer 30 minute weekday afternoon sessions along harbour. It’s seriously underutilized during the day, but gets busy in the evening when the joggers come out.
30 minutes is the perfect amount of time to capture genuine smiles and a bit of personality without completely overwhelming the kids or interrupting the rest of your busy workday.

I have expanded my options of locations for these Demi Sessions: Botanical Garden, HK Park, Kowloon Park plus a couple of secret locations that I am happy to pass along in an email or phone call.
I don’t do them on weekends right now as I hope to make these a weekday offering. I used to be incredibly busy during the week, especially with toddler photo sessions, and after-school shoots, but everyone seems to want weekends now. This is a way to gentely push some people back into considering this quick weekday option. Honestly, Hong Kong is 100X easier on weekdays. The greatest urban locations in the world are virtually empty. On the weekends is another matter! Hong Kong on Sundays can be verging on impossible when you factor in travel (with gear), and the absolute crush of humanity at the great spots. Also factor in the wildcard of one-off events going on, and it can be incredibly stressful.

I know my job isn’t all that important in the grand scheme of things, but I still take it seriously. Most of all, I hate wasting even one minute of client’s time. I like to work with ‘clean’ backdrops, with a minimum of people around to clutter them up. That said I shoot with crazy “fast” lenses, so my backdrops are usually extremely out of focus. Still, sometimes I want to add a zero on to my Sunday afternoon rates. It can be that hard!

Anyway, I digress as usual. Here are some samples from a recent 30 Minute Demi Photo Session in Wanch Chai. I use the roof of the Wan Chai Ferry Terminal when it works for the light.
