A Three-Generation Boxing Family That Disappeared
In 2006 I was hanging out in Battambang around Chinese New Year in early February, when I met a local boxing club. The three generation family would train young boxers during the day, then travel out to villages at night to stage matches. I hung out with them on and off till late April. Mostly shooting the matches. When I came back a year later, it was gone.
Don’t get into discussions with Thai people about which came first; Kun Khmer or Muay Thai.
This was the first cohesive thing I had ever shot with a digital camera. I had one battery, one x 1GB card and I shot on JPG. Basically I did it completely wrong. I processed a bunch 15+ years ago and didn’t look at them again till recently. One by one they are OK, but viewed as a series I think they are most interesting. I have around 1500 shots that I saved from that trip. I’ll be posting lots more here. I think they are the only document of this once popular tradition.
